According to the company’s confirmation to TechCrunch, TikTok is developing a new feature called “AI Song,” which leverages AI to compose songs in response to user input. Currently, AI Song is an experimental function that only a limited number of users can access. The purpose of the feature is to be enjoyed, not to try and make the next big hit song.
Based to what the business told TechCrunch, AI Song generates lyrics in response to text cues using Bloom, a sizable language model. Next, music from a TikTok pre-saved repertoire is combined with the text.
Jonah Manzano, a TikTok user, created a walkthrough video explaining the new feature’s operation. The video states that consumers are first prompted to “enter a prompt to generate a song” by AI Song. TikTok offers a few recommended prompts, such “A new beginning,” “Going to concerts,” and “Cuddling with pets.” You can also enter a prompt of your own. Once you enter a prompt, the program will begin creating your music.
The program will then compose lyrics pertaining to your request and mix them with music after a short while. You may alter the song’s atmosphere by alternating between “pop,” “EDM,” and “Hiphop.” The end product is an odd song whose lyrics were created using the entered text prompt.
According to the video, the app notes that “there are rules that must be followed” when using AI Song. For instance, the feature can’t be used to exploit or harm minors or spread false or personal information that harms others. It also can’t be used to defame, impersonate or harass others.
As with any other beta feature, it’s unclear when and if AI Song will be rolled out on a larger scale. TikTok notes that the feature’s name may change in the future.
TikTok isn’t the only company launching a tool that allows users to create music for short videos. A few months ago, YouTube launched its “Dream Track” feature, which allows creators to create 30-second AI-generated soundtracks. Users can create soundtracks using the sounds of select artists, including Alec Benjamin, Charlie Puth, Charli XCX, Demi Lovato, John Legend, Sia, T-Pain, Troye Sivan and Papoose.
It is worth noting that although TikTok’s new features are not designed for the music industry, TikTok’s parent company ByteDance launched a free music production application in the United States last June to help musicians create music similar to portable smart digital devices. way to record audio and create and edit it. Audio workstation (DAW).
Ripple allows users to sing or hum a melody directly within the app. The melody is then expanded using machine learning and converted into an instrumental song. The app’s models are trained on music licensed or owned by ByteDance. Ripple allows users to easily record, cut, trim and edit audio files on their mobile devices.
The new AI songs feature comes as TikTok moves deeper into the music business. Last year, the company launched its own subscription-only music streaming service, TikTok Music, in some countries to compete with the likes of Spotify and Apple Music.
Although TikTok has not released any details on when it plans to launch its streaming service in the United States, it has been more than a year since ByteDance filed a trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for a service called “TikTok Music.” It’s probably expected to be released at some point.
